Sun Jianfu: Distinguished Professor

Professor Sun Jianfu is a doctoral supervisor of World Economics, and Management Science and Engineering, winner of National Teaching Master, expert with the State Council Special Allowance, and leader of a national teaching team in Public Finance. He also holds many other positions including a standing director of China Social Insurance Association, director of Society of Public Finance of China, vice chairman of Hebei Public Finance Society and vice chairman of Hebei Social Insurance Association.

Professor Sun has been concentrating on the research of theories and policies of public finance and taxation, social security and public economy management for a long time. As the director of the research center for government management and public policy in key research bases of humanities and social sciences of Hebei Education Department, he has presided over 8 vertical subjects above provincial level containing a project of the National Social Science Fund of China, named “Research on Performance Evaluation of Investments in Co-construction and Sharing of Information Resources”. He has taken charge of editing textbooks including A Course in China’s Taxation and Public Finance, published monographs including Comparative Research on Macro Investment, Introduction to China’s Taxation System and Research on Performance Evaluation of Investments in Co-construction and Sharing of Information Resources and published more than a hundred papers in academic journals such as The Journal of World Economy, Public Finance Research, Taxation Research and Business Management Journal. Professor Sun has won 1 first prize and 2 second prizes of the Excellent Social Science Achievements of Hebei Province, 3 second prizes of Excellent Teaching Achievements of Hebei Province and 8 third prizes of scientific research and teaching projects at provincial level.

Furthermore, Mr. Sun has devoted himself to the teaching work in public finance and social security for many years so that he made a series of outstanding achievements with a public finance team. In 2009, his public finance team became a national teaching team after supported by experts inside and outside the province. In 2010, the innovation highland for management science of HBU was rated as the innovation highland of undergraduate education in Hebei province, wherein Labor and Social Security major and Public Utility Management major were rated as provincial brand and characteristic specialties. In 2011, HBU teaching and research section of public finance was granted the honorary title of “National Pioneer Worker Unit” by All-China Federation of Trade Unions. In 2012, HBU Public Finance specialty was established as a pilot specialty of national comprehensive reform. Many young teachers from his public finance team won awards of excellent scientific research and teaching achievements at provincial and ministerial level, including Trans-Century Talents of the Ministry of Education, Talents of “3-3-3 Project” and Young Experts in Social Sciences of Hebei Province. In 2015, the members of this team together with other teachers guided students to participate in the National Debate Competition of Taxation Knowledge, where they were rated as the third winner group.

In addition, Professor Sun Jianfu has been widely accepted inside and outside the university because of his diligent spirit and outstanding achievements. In 2011, he won the award of the six session of National Teaching Master, and was selected for Chinese Outstanding Humanities and Social Scientists. In 2013, he won the Special Nomination Prize for Excellent Teachers of Baosteel Education Foundation, and was conferred the honorary title of “Teacher's Moral Pacesetter in Universities”. Most importantly, Mr. Sun was rated as ”the most charming teacher of HBU”. He was appraised as an HBU Distinguished Professor in 2015.

His hair turns grey day after day, when chalk is used to write silently year by year. Dedicating himself to education, loving students as his children and loving the school as his home, Professor Sun has worked in the ordinary position as a teacher for over 30 years, serving the students and our society. He often say to his students and young teachers, ”I feel very happy when I bring joy to others with my intelligence and strength in the educational career. My happiness stems from every successful lesson as well as sincere blessings from the students who have graduated from school. The most glorious moment in my life is when students praise me!”
