A Contestant from the Confucius Institute of HBU in Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Won the Champion in the “Chinese Bridge” Competition of Malaysia
On July 17, the final of the 20th “Chinese Bridge” Competition for the world college students of Malaysia division sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia and hosted by the Confucius Institute of the Universiti Malaya was successfully held. After the preliminary contest, 15 contestants from seven universities in Malaysia reach the finals. Sha Yila, a contestant from Confucius Institute of HBU in UMP, won the championship and will represent the Malaysia division entering the “Chinese Bridge” global finals sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation.
Zhang Zhen, cultural counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, pointed out in his opening speech that the “Chinese Bridge” competition is not only an international competition like “Olympic” for Chinese learners from all over the world, but also a window for cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. He hoped that in the process of learning Chinese, the contestants would strengthen exchanges and cooperation with youths from China and other countries, and contribute to creating a better world and a brighter future for mankind.
The content of the competition includes quiz of Chinese language and culture, Chinese speech and questions and answers, talent show. The contestants first conducted quiz of Chinese language and culture, and then gave an online speech on the theme of “One World One Family”, and answered questions from the judges immediately. The talent show was recorded in advance and then played online by the contestants, showing Chinese talents such as singing and dancing, calligraphy and paintings, and instrumental performance. After winning the prize, Sha Yila said that she would strive for better results in the next competition and win honor for the university.
