President Meng Qingyu Meets with Delegation from Brazil

On the morning of June 24, President Meng Qingyu of Hebei University met with the delegation from the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre, Brazil, led by President Jenifer Saffi and Academician Celia Carlini, Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and Academician of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Wang Chuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Hebei University, attended the symposium.

President Meng Qingyu extended a welcome to President Jenifer Saffi and her delegation. He noted that the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre is one of Hebei University’s most important and closest partners in Latin America. He expressed the hope that this symposium would serve as an opportunity to further deepen the long-term and stable cooperation between the two universities, continuously strengthen the joint laboratory, steadily advance joint doctoral training and postdoctoral exchanges, and deepen collaborative research projects. President Meng stated that Hebei University is ready to join hands with the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre, learn from each other, and make even greater contributions to the development of education and public health in both countries and to the deepening and expansion of China-Brazil friendly cooperation.

President Jenifer Saffi expressed her gratitude to Hebei University for its warm hospitality and introduced the general profile of the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre, covering its institutional history, academic programs, and international cooperation. She noted that the two universities share a solid foundation for collaboration, having jointly established a research laboratory, facilitated faculty exchanges, conducted joint research, and co-authored and published academic papers, yielding fruitful outcomes. She expressed her hope to continue deepening existing cooperation with Hebei University and to explore new areas of collaboration, jointly addressing global public health challenges such as population aging and brain disorders. Academician Celia Carlini expressed her appreciation for Hebei University’s thoughtful arrangements, stating that this visit had been highly rewarding. She affirmed her commitment to further deepening medical collaboration and promoting the advancement of public health in both countries.

Subsequently, the two sides held in-depth discussions on laboratory development, talent cultivation, and research collaboration in areas such as biomedicine and rehabilitation medicine, reaching broad consensus on multiple fronts. Both parties expressed their intention to take this visit as an opportunity to strengthen communication, expand areas of exchange, and advance concrete cooperation in a pragmatic manner.

Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation, the Institute of Science and Technology Innovation, and the School of Basic Medical Sciences attended the symposium.
