HBU holds“International Chinese Language Day”

On April 16, on the occasion of “International Chinese Language Day” in 2023, teacher representatives from the College of International Exchange and Education of HBU and more than 20 international students from Niger, Nigeria, Sudan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Japan, Russia, Ireland and other countries came to Gu’an County, Langfang City and walked into beautiful countryside to experience the intangible culture. This activity is also a compulsory practical link for international students in China to learn Understanding Contemporary China.

This activity varied in form and was rich in content, including visiting the Semi-deaf Art Museum, Dayuanzi Theatre, Kou Zhongtian Seal Cutting Museum and many other intangible cultural heritage projects. Hence, these international students learned about the inheritance history and characteristics of Beijing embroidery in China, as well as the development history and folk stories of wickerwork, enjoyed the works of Zhang Yong, the inheritor of woodcarving, learned the design and making of artworks, and experienced the seal of Chinese character “Fu” and seal cutting calligraphy. After the event, all these international students expressed that it’s really a huge privilege and praised China's intangible cultural heritage and beautiful countryside.

The “International Chinese Language Day” is held every year on April 20th, also known as the day of  traditional Chinese solar term “Grain Rain”, to commemorate the contribution of Cangjie, the ancestor of Chinese characters. And April 20th, 2023 marks the 14th anniversary of  the “International Chinese Language Day” with the theme of  “Chinese: Enhancing Dialogue among Civilizations”. This activity can help international students in HBU understand China’s intangible cultural heritage and rural revitalization, promote their perception and comprehension of Chinese excellent traditional culture, thus making them deeply understand contemporary China, and enhance dialogue among civilizations.
