The 10th International Symposium on Modern Ecology and the 8th International Youth Ecologist Forum held in HBU

From 17th to 19th in May, the 10th International Symposium on Modern Ecology and the 8th International Youth Ecologist Forum were held in HBU. Nearly 500 experts, scholars and graduate students attended this conference, who are from more than 70 research institutes, universities in China and many from the United States and Canada. The conference was hosted by the International Symposium on Modern Ecology Series Organization and Academic Committee, the International Youth Ecologist Forum Organization and Academic Committee, the Ecological Society of China and HBU.

On May 18th, the opening ceremony of the conference was held. The secretary of the party committee, Guo Jian attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcoming speech. After introducing the development and construction of our university, he pointed out that this conference is of great significance for promoting the development of ecological disciplines. He hoped that relevant departments should fully learn and absorb the results of the conference to further increase the development of the youth, to encourages and promotes young scholars to take the responsibility of the times and to promote the rapid development of related disciplines. The professor of Arizona State University in the United States, distinguished professor in Beijing Normal University and the chairman if the International Symposium on Modern Ecology Series Academic Committee professor Wu Jianguo; the chairman of the Ecological Society of China, the director of the Research Center for Eco-Evironmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the secretary of the party committee professor Ouyang Zhiyun; the researcher in Institute of Marine Biology, University of Chicago in the United States and the president of International Youth Ecologist Forum Series Academic Committee professor Tang Jianwu delivered their speechs. The opening ceremony was presided by the dean of School of Life Sciences in HBU, Kang Xianjiang.

In the three-day conference, experts and scholars at home and abroad discussed the topic on the status and prospects, development pattern, research hotspots and future challenges of modern ecology, focusing on 13 topics such as physiological ecology, behavioral ecology, and evolutionary ecology around the theme. 19 famous ecologists gave reports on the conference, 52 young scholars gave oral presentations and 36 ecologists made wall posters.

On May 19th, the closing ceremony of the conference was held. The president Kang Le attended the closing ceremony and delivered a speech. He emphasized that the conference fully demonstrated the spirit of experts and scholars dedicated to serve for the construction of ecological civilization and explore and solve the frontier problems of global major ecological sciences, injecting new vitality and impetus to promote the development of ecological science. The International Symposium on Modern Ecology and the International Youth Ecologist Forum are important academic exchange platforms for ecologists at home and abroad. They are held every two years and aim to conduct academic exchanges with overseas Chinese ecologists and outstanding young and middle-aged ecologists in China to promote the development of China’s ecological disciplines and the growth of young talents.
