105th Anniversary Academic Series: Dr. Dietmar Appelhans of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden Visits Hebei University for Academic

On October 28, Dr. Dietmar Appelhans of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF Dresden) in Germany was invited to visit the College of Chemistry and Materials Science of Hebei University for academic exchange and delivered a lecture entitled “Exploring the Applications of (Multi)Functionalized Polymer Vesicles in the Construction of Biomimetic Structures and Functions, Microfluidics, and Other Fields.” More than 100 faculty members and graduate students from the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, the National Key Laboratory of Novel Pharmaceutical Preparations and Excipients, and the MoE Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Diagnosis (Hebei University) attended the event. The lecture was chaired by Jia Guang, Associate Dean of the College.

Dr. Appelhans focused on the design and construction of functionalized polymer vesicles and their applications in biomimetic systems, introducing his group's research progress in recent years in areas such as smart polymer materials, artificial cells, and biomimetic nanoreactors. He highlighted the construction of biomimetic systems with specific structures and functions through the precise design and controlled assembly of functional polymers, and discussed the application prospects of multifunctional polymer vesicles in the simulation of biological functions, microfluidic technology, and related interdisciplinary fields. Rich in content and novel in perspective, the lecture showcased a frontier research direction that integrates polymer chemistry and materials science with biology and microfluidic technology.

Faculty members and students at the event held in-depth discussions with Dr. Appelhans on issues such as the structural design of functionalized polymer vesicles, the construction of artificial cell systems, and their potential applications. Drawing on his own research experience, he answered the questions raised by faculty and students in detail and shared research experience and development trends in the relevant fields. After the lecture, Dr. Appelhans visited the National Key Laboratory of Novel Pharmaceutical Preparations and Excipients and the MoE Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Diagnosis, and held in-depth exchanges and discussions with the relevant research groups on specific cooperation projects.

As one of the academic events marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of Hebei University, this exchange was intended to build a platform for faculty and students to communicate with and learn from experts at high-level international research institutions, to continuously strengthen academic exchange and cooperation between the College and high-level research institutions at home and abroad, to promote interdisciplinary integration and collaborative innovation, and to inject new momentum into the University’s disciplinary development, scientific research, and cultivation of high-level innovative talents.
