Hebei University Invited to Attend
2026 Global Governance Forum (Xiong’an)

From October 23 to 25, the 2026 Global Governance Forum (Xiong’an) was held in the Xiong’an New Area. Hosted by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, the forum was themed “Rebuilding Confidence and Cooperation: Changes Unseen in a Century and Reforming and Improving Global Governance.” It featured an opening ceremony, plenary addresses, five thematic sub-forums, 22 seminars, and a number of side events. Nearly 400 representatives attended, including political, strategic, academic, business, and media figures and young leaders from more than 90 countries and from international and regional organizations such as the United Nations. They gathered to discuss how to reform and improve global governance. Meng Qingyu, President of Hebei University, attended the forum by invitation and delivered remarks at a seminar.

Meng Qingyu said that the world today faces complex and severe crises and challenges, and that building a just and equitable global governance system is the shared aspiration of the people of all countries. He noted that the forum, held in Xiong’an, is an important platform for national-level multilateral dialogue that implements the Global Governance Initiative, upholds multilateralism, and advances the reform and improvement of the global governance system. Taking Xiong’an, a “city of the future,” as its window, the forum links global governance with urban governance and builds international consensus; it is a signature event that showcases the practical achievements of Chinese modernization to the world and serves the overall interests of national diplomacy through opening up. He stressed that universities, as key vehicles for in-depth exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and important platforms for sharing the achievements of civilization, should embrace an open approach to education: they should consolidate the people-to-people foundation of development consensus through joint talent cultivation, build bonds of cooperation among development partners through collaborative research, expand the value dimensions of development partnerships through mutual learning among civilizations, and take concrete action to fulfill the mission of the times by helping to build a more just and equitable global governance system.

During the forum, Meng Qingyu also met with faculty and student representatives from Hebei University who served as volunteers for the event.
