Hebei University’s Biology & Biochemistry Joins ESI Global Top 1%, Becoming Its 9th Ranked Discipline
On March 12, 2026, Clarivate Analytics released the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) discipline statistics. Hebei University’s Biology & Biochemistry discipline entered the global top 1% for the first time, becoming the ninth discipline to achieve this milestone, following Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Plant & Animal Science, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Agricultural Science, and Environmental Science & Ecology. This achievement not only reflects the continuous breakthroughs in the university’s Life Sciences and Green Development discipline cluster but also marks a new high in the university’s influence on the international research stage.
In recent years, the university has focused on its two core discipline clusters, Yanzhao Culture and Life Sciences & Green Development, innovating development concepts, optimizing the allocation of research resources, and strengthening interdisciplinary integration. The Biology & Biochemistry discipline has made significant progress in fundamental theoretical research, applied research, and international collaboration, gaining widespread recognition for its academic influence globally.
The ESI database, based on the Web of Science Core Collection, conducts in-depth analysis of journal article counts and citation data, categorizing academic papers into 22 disciplines. It is one of the key indicator tools for measuring the academic level and international influence of universities, research institutions, and countries.
