Academic News of "Revitalization of Science and Engineering" in HBU: the 4th Xiong'an Life Science Forum in 2021

On 25 May, 2021, Wang Xiaoquan，director of the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Science, Zhang Wenhao, director of the State Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change, Guo Yalong, and Liang Zhenchang, director of the Science and Technology Division, came to our university to give thematic lectures. Presided by Chen Bing, vice president of HBU, this lecture attracted many teachers and students of relevant majors in the College of Life Science.

In combination with his own research fields, Wang Xiaoquan made a report entitled “Evolution and Biogeography of Gymnosperms”. Starting from the introduction of gymnosperms, Director Wang Xiaoquan deeply analyzed the evolutionary relationship between gymnosperms and seed plants, as well as the response of gymnosperm to climate change. Researcher Zhang Wenhao, researcher Guo Yalong, and researcher Liang Zhenchang respectively gave thematic reports entitled “Response of Grassland Plants to Nitrogen Enrichment”, “Exploring Plant Evolution - From Darwin” and “Molecular Mechanisms of Grapevine Cold Resistance and Breeding Practices”, offering an excellent academic feast for our teachers and students.

After the lecture, the teachers and students of the college had in-depth discussions and exchanges with Wang Xiaoquan and other 3 people.  With heated discussions and a strong academic atmosphere on site, the students and teachers benefited a lot from the academic exchanges.

This academic exchange is one of the activities of Xiong'an Life Science Forum in 2021 of the College of Life Science. It aims to broaden academic horizon of teachers and students and helps the construction of a first-class discipline in biology through a series of academic reports and exchange.
