Prof. Shi Hongyun's Latest Paper Published in Top Journal

Recently, Prof. Shi Hongyun, director of the Department of Radiotherapy, Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University, published a paper in International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics, titled Association of Adjuvant Radiotherapy with Long-term Overall and Recurrence-free Survival Following Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multicenter Propensity-matched Study. The paper (IF:7.038) is Q1 in Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Q2 in Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics (IJROBP), known in the field as the Red Journal, is the most authoritative and influential journal dedicated to radiation oncology and the official scientific publication of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

By analyzing 683 patients from centers around the country who received hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma with narrow margins, Prof. Shi Hongyun concludes that adjuvant radiotherapy following HCC resection is the independent protective factor for long-term overall and recurrence-free survival in such patients and can reduce the risk of death and recurrence after surgery.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the 4th most common malign tumor and the 2nd leading cause of tumor mortality in China. Hepatectomy is an important means of long-term survival for HCC patients, with a survival rate of 40%-65% 5 years after surgery. However, the recurrence rate 5 years following hepatectomy is as high as 50%-70%, which greatly affects the long-term efficacy of surgery. The key to improving the long-term prognosis of Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma lies in reducing the high resurgence rate following the surgery. This paper has positive significance in promoting the updating of existing clinical treatment guidelines.
