Delegation of University of Nouakchott, Mauritania Visits Hebei University

 

On the morning of June 11, a delegation from the Confucius Institute at the University of Nouakchott, Mauritania, visited Hebei University. President Meng Qingyu attended the welcoming ceremony and delivered a speech.  

Meng Qingyu extended a warm welcome to Professor Ali El Boukhary, President of the University of Nouakchott, and his delegation. He stated that as envoys of culture and friendship between the two countries, Hebei University and the University of Nouakchott have made significant contributions to promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Mauritania by jointly establishing the Confucius Institute, offering Chinese language courses, and providing "Chinese + Vocational Skills" education, which has attracted more Mauritanian youth to the enthusiasm of learning Chinese. He expressed hope that the two universities would take this visit as an opportunity to further deepen practical cooperation in talent cultivation, faculty and student exchanges, and the development of the Confucius Institute.  

Ali El Boukhary, President of the University of Nouakchott, remarked that his university regards its collaboration with Hebei University as a model of openness and the integration of science and culture. He expressed deep gratitude for the continuous support provided by Hebei University and looked forward to leveraging the Confucius Institute platform to elevate their cooperation to new heights and strengthen the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.  

Vice President Zhang Yangjian of Hebei University, along with representatives from secondary units including the Office of International Cooperation, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Law, the School of Physical Science and Technology, the College of International Education and Exchange, and the Confucius Institute Center, attended the welcoming ceremony.  

Following the ceremony, the two sides held the 2025 Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Nouakchott, Mauritania. Chinese Director Guo Guangwei and Foreign Director Mohamedou B’neijeck discussed the institute’s progress and financial operations. Council members reviewed the reports and deliberated on the future development of the Confucius Institute. The delegation also visited the Hebei University History Museum and engaged in in-depth discussions with representatives from relevant schools on talent cultivation and scientific research collaboration.  

 

The delegation of educators from the Confucius Institute at the University of Nouakchott is part of the "Chinese Bridge" program supported by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China’s Ministry of Education, with Hebei University serving as the host institution. The delegation’s five-day itinerary in China includes exchanges with educational institutions and enterprises in Baoding and Beijing, as well as experiencing Chinese culture.
