Recently, the National Planning Section and Office for the Collection and Publication of Chinese Ancient Books publicised The Chinese Ancient Books Collection and Publication Special Funding Project, Great Universal Geographic Map published by Hebei University Press was selected. Since the establishment, this is the press’s first success declaration, representing a breakthrough in the collection and publication of Chinese ancient books.
The Chinese Ancient Books Collection and Publication Special Funding Project is a state-level publishing funding project. The National Planning Section and Office for the Collection and Publication of Chinese Ancient Books selects and supports those Chinese ancient book publishing projects aiming to promote Chinese excellent traditional culture with high value in edition, academic and cultural promulgation. The picked project Great Universal Geographic Map is one of the fine publishing projects since its implementation of the boutique publishing strategy.
The Great Universal Geographic Map preserved in our library is a Chinese version world map drawn by the Belgian missionary Nan Huairen in 1674. It is the only completely preserved color print in China with a high version value. Geographic Map is a further explanation and explanation of the Great Universal which is the only geography work of Westerners in the Qing Dynasty included in theSi Ku Quan Shu. It is a long-cherished wish for generations of people studying and working here to collect and publish Great Universal Geographic Map and its related literatures. Since 2016, with the strong support of school leaders, our press together with the library and the Department of History, jointly carried out high-definition shooting, text punctuating and proofreading, photo collection and other work, and strived to make it a set of ancient books masterpieces that will long outlive them. The collection and publication of Great Universal Geographic Map is of great significance. On the one hand, it contributes to the preservation and dissemination of the book, on the other hand, it helps people to fully explore its in literature and culture. (Fig)
